Who We Are

How can one pastor speak for an entire congregation? How can any one person, in a few paragraphs or less, define a church? It can’t be done. Kathwood is a congregation of many threads woven into a tapestry that is ever evolving, ever changing. We look different today than we did twenty years ago, and I hope, God directing, we will learn things in the here and now that lead us to be still new and fresh twenty years from today.

What follows is just a snapshot, a finite offering that can and probably will be amended with time. However, it seems during this journey God has led us to a few constants. We believe in the primacy of worship. We believe in missions, and have supported various efforts throughout the years with our time and our money. We believe in the inclusiveness of God’s order and creation, and we do our best not to create human litmus tests for church involvement. Discipleship and congregational life is compared to a banquet table in scripture, and the way we read the gospel, everyone is invited to that banquet.

Kathwood is not that old in the annals of Christian history. We are about 45 years young or old, depending upon your perspective. And, as best I can tell, we are growing and always striving to be and become the Kingdom of God. Some days we mature and grow and learn with the speed of a genius. Other days we display a stubbornness to resist the future or even hear from God at all. But that just makes us normal, and the other thing we believe, maybe the most important thing if I can be so bold to speak for everyone, is that while we are on that journey of learning and growing and maturing in our faith, we do not go alone, no matter what our pace. God the Creator, Jesus the Christ, and the Holy Spirit our guide goes with us.

As the quote on our homepage states, we are a collection of broken people who on many occasions are a pretty good bunch of people to do life with, and we do our best to see the Trinity in each other.

Fellowship is important to us too. We like to eat together, and we like to play together too. And if you are reading this, what we hope to be true as well, what we hope to model and communicate in all we do, is that you are important to us too.

Worship is Sunday, eleven o’clock. See you there? Hope so.

Sincerely,

Pastor Kevin
