From Our Pastor

Within  this website news you will find  an invitation to attend a rededication  of  St. Lawrence Place,  a transitional   housing ministry for families in Columbia.

You are well acquainted  with  St. Lawrence Place, for Kathwood’s involvement goes back many years.  You’ve packed Thanksgiving boxes; you’ve pulled weeds and sorted furniture in the warehouse.  Maybe some of you have ministered in ways that aren’t known by the masses.  Probably so.  We have several anonymous angels at Kathwood.

But those days are behind us, and ministry points us toward the future.  We can’t rest on our past involvement any more than the Holy Spirit rests on Pentecost’s achievement.  Truly, the Spirit is always moving, always living and breathing among us.  So too must we be…always looking for opportunities to grow, earnestly involved in being and becoming the Kingdom of God.

So I think the rededication of St. Lawrence Place is a good idea.  The Trinity Housing Corporation was born from a divine nudge and much has been done since, and there remains much to do.  Evidently homelessness isn’t going away any time soon, so the need for a rededication to the ministry task is a sound one.  It’s a good parallel to our lives as well.  Many of us decided to follow Jesus a long time ago.  And even though we worship together each and every week, how often are we asked to rededicate ourselves to the path we decided to walk long ago?  Sometimes even the most ardent walker needs help staying on the path.

So join me, this Sunday, August 12 for a rededication of a local ministry called St. Lawrence Place that has served and will continue to serve God’s Kingdom well.  If you go, given the Holy Spirit’s activity, you may find yourself rededicated as well.

     Hope to see you there,

      Rev. Kevin M. Roberts

 Global Missions Speaker

On Sunday, August 19th, we are happy to host Rob Nash, CBF Coordinator of  Global  Missions,  as our guest speaker preacher for the morning.  We have just contributed in Kathwood’s largest ever state missions offering, and there is a fresh wind of missions involvement blowing through our congregation.   Please come and worship with us and hear how God  is  equipping  and  calling  us  towards missional involvement in our neighborhood and across the globe.

Come and Listen, Go and Do

We learned from Pastor Kevin’s sermons that Jesus taught two lessons in Luke 10.  He asks us to come  and  listen at  His feet  as  Mary  did,  and  He directs us to go and do as He directed a lawyer earlier in the chapter.  In the story of  Mary and Martha  we saw that Martha was the “doer.”  As we have listened and been listening — some in Sunday School, some on Wednesday nights, some from the worship service, we have some great opportunities to be doers of the Word.

Will you be a worker to help complete painting projects at Hannah House or  to clean, paint, plant  or carpet at St. Lawrence Place in anticipation of their August 12th Celebration? We really need you!  Please check out the sign up sheet with the details and sign up to help us.

The work days will include the next 3 Saturdays (August 4, 11 & 18) for Hannah House and 2 Saturdays (August 4 & 11), a Friday (August 10), and a couple of weekdays (Mon.-Wed., August 6-8) at St. Lawrence Place.  Step out in faith and sign up.  You need not be a painter, nor do you need to provide any equipment.  We’ve got it all.  Contact Pam Greenlaw to Sign up by phone 760-2539 or by email to pamiekins@hotmail.com .

UPDATE:  8-9-07  There is still time to help!  Our  mission  work  at  The Hannah House and  St. Lawrence Place continues.  We are still in need of volunteers.  If you can help at Hannah House on either of  the  next  two  Saturdays,  8/11 or  8/18,  we could sure use your help. [8:30-12:00]  Contact the church office or Pam Greenlaw for more information.  You are invited to the rededication of St. Lawrence this Sunday, August 12th, at 4:00 p.m.  The address is 2400 Waites Road.   You can see first hand the results of the labor of your Kathwood friends.
